About me.
I’m both a specialist and a generalist helping business people solve business problems for which they are either ill-equipped, don't have enough bandwidth, or need an outside view. I particularly help with complex reviews, business or technical, with business development, transformation e.g. social business, and I stand between different fields, professions, and ideas in order to help people on both sides understand each other.
In a nutshell I work at the convergence among the mega trends for the decade: social business, mobile enterprise, cloud computing, and collaborative commerce.
I have a Masters degree in Computing Science, but I’m not an IT professional per se. I graduated from an Advanced Management Program, but I'm not a general manager. I was among the first Certified Information Systems Auditors in the world, but I don't audit. I built and managed, for 5 years, a sales team and a marketing team, but I'm not a marketer or salesman. I had people running $100 million projects reporting to me, but I am not a project manager. I was part of a investor firm for early-stage start-ups, but I'm not a VC. I can design campaign strategies and write copy, but I’m not a marketing professional. I'm a Certified Social Media Strategist, but I'm not a social media expert.
I bring all that to bear on social business topics including strategy, business transformation, digital engagement and enterprise IT change.
Where I provide value is in helping IT understand marketing and vice-versa, in helping IT understand business and vice-versa, helping businesses understand their markets, and in particular how markets and customers are changing and future ways of connecting with them e.g. in relation to the Cloud Computing transformation, or the Social Business Transformation.
With an eclectic view, I look widely for opportunities and solutions, while keeping my feet on the ground about practical realities. I know that organisations are complex, things take time, that it takes time for new ideas to sink in, and that people have other things to do in the meantime.
If you need fresh eyes or more hands and are facing a business or market transformation, particularly related to the business of IT, or to social business, then give me a call, or contact me through your preferred channel.
